ZBrush Creature Creation: Dinosaur Edition — 8-Week Schedule This live course on Zoom will also be recorded. No classes July 4-5 weekend due to the U.S. holiday. Week 1: Foundations, References & Tools Overview of the course & expectations Class vote on dinosaur species Paleontological reference gathering Setting up image planes in ZBrush Introduction to Lightbox and Sculptris Pro mode Blocking out the skeletal structure using ZSpheres or low-res meshes Week 2: Skeleton Refinement & Brushes Review of anatomical accuracy Sculpting bones with proper proportions Understanding dinosaur locomotion and weight distribution Intro to subtools and organization Overview of key brushes: Move, Clay Buildup, Trim Dynamic, DamStandard, Inflate, SnakeHook, etc. Week 3: Muscle Structure & Form Building muscle masses over the skeleton Landmark anatomy: understanding joints and attachment points Refining silhouettes and gesture for believability Week 4: Sculpting the Base Mesh Blocking out skin and body over the muscle layer Using polygroups to organize body regions Dynamesh & ZRemesher workflow for topology control Week 5: Detailing the Head Sculpting facial features and skull details Teeth, gums, and inner mouth structure Creating a VDM brush to sculpt scales with a single stroke Week 6: Surface Detailing & Skin Adding skin folds, scales, and patterns Using alphas, custom brushes, and Surface Noise Style considerations: realistic vs stylized creature design Week 7: Pose & Presentation Posing the model using Transpose Master Final anatomy tweaks and fixes Sculpting a simple display base or environment element Week 8: Rendering & Portfolio Polish Intro to Polypaint and optional Substance Painter export BPR rendering and lighting setup in ZBrush Compositing tips and presentation polish Final group critique and portfolio review
